SHOWING: REST AS AN ACCESS TO CREATIVITY

CHARLES A. WASHINGTON / PINKMETALPETAL PRODUCTIONS (DRESDEN)

Charles A. Washington and the participants of the workshop of the same name present the results of their joint work on the theme of rest as the foundation of creative work.

Charles A. Washington and the participants of the previous week-long workshop, SILENCE AS ACCESS TO CREATIVITY, will present the results of their joint work. At the centre is the question of the extent to which a dance performance can emerge from the perspective of rest and how creative work would express itself with rest as its foundation. In his TANZPAKT residency, Charles A. Washington is researching low-energy dance: virtuosity, sustainability and energy management in a middle-aged dancer. The research project aims to explore somatic methods and the importance of low-energy dance as sustainable practices in dance.

Charles A. Washington is a choreographer, performer, and musician based in Dresden. He serves as the Artistic Director of his project-based dance company, Pinkmetalpetal Productions. His recent works include M ~ (BIRNAM WOODS),  which was live-streamed on ARTE: UNITED WE STREAM, as well as SPINNER LIGHT, POST IRONIC MOUSTACHE, and THE CHILDREN OF TODAY, co-produced by HELLERAU: European Centre of the Arts. In 2018, Charles earned his MA in choreography. 2021, he completed his Meisterklasse research titled WE ARE ALL SUBCULTURE? at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden. In 2024, Charles became a board member of TanzNetzDresden.

The showing of the workshop results is open to the public and, due to the artistic question, particularly invites older interested parties. There will also be a post-show discussion for all interested parties.
