TECHNOLOGIES FOR MUTUAL EMPOWERMENT – ARTIST TALK: MARIA F. SCARONI
Bertolt Brecht Guest Professorship of the City of Leipzig at the CCT of Leipzig
Artist talk with guest professor Maria F. Scaroni on dance and movement as a practice of empowerment, moderated by Janine Schulze-Fellmann (Theater Studies, University of Leipzig).
The Centre of Competence for Theatre (CCT) at Leipzig University warmly invites you to join a conversation with the current Bertolt Brecht Guest Professor of the City of Leipzig, Maria F. Scaroni. This event offers an opportunity to explore her work as a choreographer and artistic activist and to discuss her understanding of a somatic approach to dance and movement as a key to liberation and empowerment.
Maria F. Scaroni is an internationally active choreographer whose work places the individual at its core, addressing both the physical and psychological complexities of the person as well as their entanglement in social contexts and structures. She views dance and movement as tools of empowerment against mechanisms of exclusion and marginalization of non-conforming bodies. As the host of the Social Pleasure Center in Berlin and other locations, she regularly creates spaces for somatic post-activism, queer-feminist empowerment, and artistically inspired forms of social exchange.
In this Artist Talk, we will delve into Scaroni’s art-activist practices, which merge aesthetic and political approaches, using examples of her work. The event aims to foster a temporary communal space for social choreography.
The talk will be held in English, but questions and contributions to the discussion are welcome in German as well.
An event as part of the Bertolt Brecht Guest Professorship of the City of Leipzig at the Centre of Competence for Theatre (CCT) of Leipzig University, in cooperation with LOFFT – DAS THEATER.
