HELLO NOBODY. ON THE DAMAGE TO BODY, MIND AND TRUTH.
with Miljenko Jergović, Yevgeniy Breyger, Yara Hoffmann, Kinga Tóth among others
This year, the Federal Agency for Civic Education is once again hosting a special evening as part of the Leipzig Book Fair – featuring literature, music and authors from Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe.
In Homer's ODYSSEUS, Odysseus calls himself “Nobody” in order to escape the cyclops Polyphemus. This trick stands for cunning, deception and the ability to conceal one's own identity. Today, “Nobody” stands above all for invisibility, devaluation and denial.
How is identity formed in a society that increasingly insists on clear categories? How do physical and mental disabilities influence our understanding of truth? And what separates us from Odysseus, who saved his life with the trick of ‘Nobody’?
Our guests explore these questions across genre boundaries and discuss alienation in the modern world and the search for human connection.
In German. Frre entrance, registration needed.
With Yevgeniy Breyger (CH/UA), Maša Dabić (AT), Miljenko Jergović (HR), Tanja Šljivar (BA) and Kinga Tóth (HU).
