FILM: SOB A TERRA DO ENCOBERTO
Libra, Xan Marçall
A film mixing ficiton and documentary to tell about the realities of seven trans* people and travestis in the north of Brazil.
A body floating in the river. Someone calls for help. Evoking from the enchanted waters of somewhere in Brazil a cry of insurrection of lives. The world in pandemic allied to a political and controversial movement of Brazilian identity crisis, trans people and transvestites reconstruct the imaginary of the country from a perspective marked by Afro-indigenous cosmologies. A country marked by territorial and imaginary disputes where unique relationships of spirituality and existence, and their practices of continuity and decoloniality, are held within a hegemonic plan of erasure. The problem is spiritual and political. And to retell this story, seven trans people from the north and northeast of Brazil are documented and asked to talk about their lives crossed by territoriality, spirituality and their imaginaries.
SOB A TERRA DO ENCOBERTO is a film directed and scripted by the artists Libra & Xan Marçall. It mixes fiction and documentary to narrate the lives of 7 trans people and transvestites from the North and Northeast of Brazil. In this way, we follow their lives in their processes of identity construction marked by territoriality and their Afro-indigenous cosmovisions, understanding that spirituality, the practices of Enchantment, the modes of existence of a hidden Brazil, point to possible counter-colonial views of resistance, struggle, and creativity to reinvent the country.
Xan Marçall, one of the makers of the film, is part of the production CRACKS IN TIME AND THE APPEARANCE OF NEW GOD*ESSES, which premieres at LOFFT on 11 October.
