COSMIC TAP

NIKOLAI KEMENY (LEIPZIG)

Two tap dancers and two musicians take the audience on an exciting, audio-visual improvised encounter that leaves time and space behind.

Andrea Alvergue and Nikolai Kemeny, who are also tap dancers in the Sebastian Weber Dance Company, combine the worlds of rhythm and movement as modern hoofers. Clarinettist Dorit Schäffler and trumpeter Markus Stockhausen dissolve genre boundaries through intuitive playing. In improvisation, COSMIC TAP creates a direct communication between dance and music. From a first movement, a first sound, a visually experienceable sound structure arises, which is directly related to this moment.

Here Tap Dance shows itself as an instrument. Aesthetically, athletically, casually, loosely and yet full of power, the dance couple creates sensual images of movement. The musicians also move freely through the space, influencing and communicating with the dancers with their sound and physical participation.

From 13 Years on.

Accompanying the production COSMIC TAP is the TALK: GENDEREQUALITY AND COLLABORATION IN JAZZ AND TAP DANCE with step dancer Andrea Alvergue and jazz musician Myrsini Bekakou, focusing on women's perspectives on collective work in the music and dance scene.
