ANTHROPO.10: NESSUN DORMA

JACH/HOFFMANN-AXTHELM/SCHUBERT/ARND (GERMANY)

The robot Arka, who loves death arias, and the cleaning robot Putzini are the two main characters of this unusual musical theater piece. Can robots have a death wish?

The robot Arka, who loves death arias, and the cleaning robot Putzini are the two main characters of the unusual musical theater piece NESSUN DORMA. As befits a dramatic opera material, we see the two robots loving and suffering on stage. They discuss imitation and authenticity in art, love and betrayal, and forcefully question their own existence. When their relationship falls apart, Putzini learns to compose his own death aria based on complex algorithms and neural networks. But can a robot even have a death wish? The interaction of the two artificial creatures humorously and touchingly combines emotional-philosophical reflection and digital science with opera, which tells of human feelings.
