WERKSTATT: TRANS*FAIR
KONZEPTKOMBINAT (BERLIN)
Football is one of the most popular sports among queer people, but trans*, inter*, agender and non-binary (TIAN*) people often find it difficult to participate in the league. This structural transphobia is countered with queer joy in sport, because TIAN* people can kick damn well!
In the 2023/24 season, the Saxon Football Association (SFV) revoked the playing rights of five Red Star Leipzig footballers. This was followed by a court case that highlighted the SFV's trans hostility and lack of sensitisation. TRANS*FAIR is taking this as an opportunity to transform the theatre stage into a football pitch together with amateur footballers, because one thing is certain: without TIAN* no team! That's why we have questions: What does the right to play actually mean and who decides on the right to play? How do we cross from Leipzig to Bautzen and ensure the sustainable participation of TIAN* people in Saxon sport? Does the round always have to go into the square? Is football lesbian flirting? How to queer the football pitch? How do TIAN* people perceive their bodies when playing football? And how much queer and trans joy can fit into 90 minutes?
A production by KonzeptKombinat in co-operation with Werkstattmacher e.V. and LOFFT - DAS THEATER. Supported by the City of Leipzig - Culture Office.
