THE WORLDSHIP
YOLANDA MORALES (HAMBURG)
Can colonialism and climate change be separated? Together with her ensemble, Yolanda Morales explores movements that run deeper than we realise and creates a new sense of togetherness on stage.
Inspired by Malcolm Ferdinand’s theory of decolonial ecology and his metaphor of the ‘Worldship’, the Hamburg-based Mexican choreographer Yolanda Morales embarks on a dance journey through stormy waters. Together with the performers, she explores and deconstructs repetitive and mechanised movements that have become ingrained in our bodies over generations – and whose roots often lie in colonial systems of physical labour.
The audience is invited to become part of this journey: step by step, a shared space of experience unfolds, in which movement and rhythm open up new perspectives. In the process, the image of a different, future ship emerges. The stage becomes a place of arrival and of staying, where people and the environment form new connections and are celebrating together.
The performance is 90 minutes long and designed as a relaxed performance. You can leave and re-enter the auditorium at any time.
