In co-production with euro-scene Leipzig – EUROPÄISCHES TANZ- UND THEATERFESTIVAL, FORWARD DANCE COMPANY takes a critical look at one of the most famous works of classical ballet: Swan Lake.
The dancers move on stage as if they were a flock of birds – sometimes harmoniously side by side, other times dispersing and swarming apart. They search individually their way through space, yet remain connected and always find back together again. The dancers’ weave their own experiences and voices into the performance and while questioning humorously and playfully what is considered ’normal’ or 'beautiful', they take ownership of Swan Lake’s history and write themselves into it.
Swan Lake – to the music of Tchaikovsky – is one of the most famous works of classical ballet and thus representative of a certain idealised body image. It continues to shape our perceptions and our expectations towards dance to this day.
FORWARD DANCE COMPANY by LOFFT - DAS THEATER questions such aesthetically and discursively established mindsets and power relations and creates unexplored dance vocabulary. Together with the dancers of FORWARD DANCE COMPANY and its artistic project director Gustavo Fijalkow, choreographer Alessandro Schiattarella takes a critical and personal look at the iconic ballet.
Audio description is available for the performance on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022. An introduction and stage tour for audience with impaired vision will take place at 5 pm.
SULLE SPONDE DEL LAGO – ON THE SHORES OF THE LAKE is a production of the FORWARD DANCE COMPANY of LOFFT – DAS THEATER and cinquantatré Basel in co-production with ROXY Birsfelden and euro-scene Leipzig.
