SCHOOL OF SHAME!

TANZLABOR LEIPZIG IN KOOPERATION MIT POLYMORA INC. (LEIPZIG)

Falling into a hole from the inside, sinking into the ground, resurrecting and singing right into shame`s face. In the SCHOOL OF SHAME! five different bodies investigate the mechanisms of shame and embarrassment.

What are we ashamed of? Our bodies, our desires, our mistakes, our egos and successes. But who are we ashamed of? Shame rarely occurs alone, shame needs an audience. In a virtuoso, bizarre musical performance between casting show and class-room, the five performers* of POLYMORA Inc. face their blind spots, publicly embarrass themselves and dismantle social systems of shame and humiliation.

As an intersectional collective with a focus on queerness and a mixed-abled approach, POLYMORA Inc. wants to make its artistic and political work accessible to as many people as possible. Three of the five artists* are working for the third time in cooperation with Tanzlabor Leipzig. After the productions WILDNIS MENSCH: BILDET RHIZOME! (2017) and ANTHROPOMORPHIA 4230 (2018), the collective was founded in February 2019.

SCHOOL OF SHAME! is the first joint production. With contemporary dance and musical elements, shame and embarrassment are renegotiated and staged with low barriers through sign language and audio description.
