The play, based on an essay by Austrian journalist Robert Misik, tells the story of a society that despises its foundations, its peripheries.
It describes political and social conditions, recounts the differences between urban and rural areas, secure and precarious lifestyles, and reveals indoctrination, segregation and brutalisation. Above all, however, it is a psychological assessment of the population in those ‘forgotten’, abandoned areas where many people seem to have little choice but to regard the often hollow promises of right-wing populism as a kind of last refuge.
