URSULA-CAIN-PREIS

The Saxon Dance Award

The Saxon Dance Award URSULA-CAIN-PREIS is awarded by the Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism. 15 Saxony-based dance institutions nominate dance productions from the previous season. A renowned jury of experts selects the prize-winners from the field of applicants.

The 2019 SAXON DANCE AWARD went to the Sebastian Weber Dance Company from Leipzig for their production COWBOYS. The jury had this to say: "A very special force runs through the entire piece which allows both the dance and music to transcend themselves, and creates a magic to which one may surrender with great pleasure for an evening, even as an audience member".

The URSULA CAIN PROMOTION AWARD went to Wagner Moreira from Dresden for I PLAY D(E)AD. The jury commented: “Wagner Moreira dedicates this piece to his 25-year career as a dancer and choreographer. With this highly exciting, profound and courageous solo work of art, his artistic work reaches a climax.”
