OPENING

Originally conceived for the historic theatre square in Weimar, OPENING will be adapted into the black box of the theatre space. The dance piece was originally created for a public "space of remembrance" where cultural memory and experience physically merge. Choreographer Mirjam Gurtner, together with the dancers of FORWARD DANCE COMPANY and Artistic Project Director Gustavo Fijalkow, is adapting a stage version with a keen sense for dance.
Detached from its original, historical space and context, the production moves into the here and now and creates abstract forms between different types of falling: falling - the physical falling - and the social and interpersonal falling apart. In this fragile intermediate space, the physical actions draw attention to the fragility of human existence. The individual can only be ‘saved’ by the group. OPENING moves in the field of tension between isolation and solidarity, that can be experienced by the audience,moving freely in the space during the performance. 
 

On Saturday, 5th of July, the performance will be followed by the TALK: BODY, DANCE AND POLITICS OF SPACE with Dr Gustavo Fijalkow (Artistic Project Director of FORWARD DANCE COMPANY) and Steven Solbrig (dancer and theorist).
