OFF EUROPA: ART ATTACK

The dance piece and happening ART ATTACK, which gives this year's OFF-EUROPA edition its title, by and with the Israeli artist couple Niv Sheinfeld & Oren Laor and ensemble, operates in a field of tension between appealingly proclaimed art theory and unleashed live excess. With intense dancing, a combative pose and queer playfulness, it moves with leaps and bounds through the pop-cultural spaces between revolution and kitsch. A rousing celebration of non-conformity and live experience on stage.

Niv Sheinfeld danced for several years in the company of Liat Dror & Nir Ben-Gal and has worked as an independent choreographer for Batsheva and the Kibbutz Dance Company, among others. Oren Laor studied acting and theatre at Tel Aviv University. They have been working together since 2004 and have toured worldwide in various constellations and with a constantly growing repertoire. 

At OFF EUROPA: MAPPING ISRAEL in 2019, they performed in Leipzig and Dresden with YOU HAPPY PUPPET. They also performed at LOFFT - DAS THEATER in 2021 with THE THIRD DANCE at OFF EUROPA: MANöVER MEISTERSTÜCKE | MANOEUVRE MASTERPIECES.

“New Wave and Post Punk pop music of the 80s expressed the cry of a generation in the midst of a political, economic and cultural turmoil, while demonstrating how pop music can also be intellectually charged.
Not surprisingly, quite a few musicians of that time were influenced by the great art manifestos of the 20th century, which served as a declaration of intent and a call for action. These manifestos were written throughout history by passionate artists in response to times of crisis and social instability, and for the purpose of presenting an alternative to the existing order.
We return to these sources of inspiration to remind ourselves and our audience that art has the power to move us, create meaning, and form a community.
